BREAST
LIFT (MASTOPEXY)
Breast lift (mastopexy) is a common surgical procedure performed to
lift drooping breasts. This may be caused by such factors as age, weight
loss and breast-feeding. There are varying degrees of this condition.
In a minimal breast droop, a breast implant may provide sufficient lift
and fullness. A mild breast droop may require breast implants with/without
a periareolar or circumareolar incision. In moderate to severe breast
drooping additional incisions are required to achieve the desired breast
lift. A breast lift (mastopexy) may also be done with no implants at
all.
Who
Is A Good Candidate?
Any healthy female, 18 years or older, with realistic expectations are
good candidates for breast lift (mastopexy) surgery. All candidates
should have no history of malignant cancer or active infection of the
breast. Pregnant or nursing women are not eligible for a breast lift
(mastopexy).
The Surgery
As a day surgery, breast lifts (mastopexy) are performed in our fully
equipped surgery center under intravenous sedation. A major breast lift
involves the removal of excess skin from the lower portion of the breast,
relocation of the nipple to a higher position, and reshaping of the
breast skin. A minor breast lift leaves the nipple intact and just removes
excess skin surrounding the nipple (periareolar). If implants are necessary
they are placed under the breast tissue or under the pectoralis major
muscle at the same time as the breast lift surgery (mastopexy).
After Surgery
The patient needs to take off 1 week for recovery after breast lift
surgery (mastopexy). Breast lift (mastopexy) surgery is a popular surgical
procedure in cosmetic surgery today. Breast lift surgery improves breast
shape and contour and patients acquire a more positive body image.

BREAST
REDUCTION
Breast
reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce large and sagging breasts.
Oversized breasts interfere with normal function and physical activity
by causing back pain, postural problems and deformities of the back
and shoulders. However, breast reduction is a surgery with a significant
aesthetic component. Breast reduction can improve the shape of the breast
and nipples. It can also restore a more proportional breast appearance
with respect to the patient's body.
The
Surgery
As a day surgery, breast reductions are performed in our fully equipped
surgery center under intravenous sedation. The breast reduction involves
the removal of excess fat, breast tissue and skin, repositioning the
nipple, and reshaping the remaining breast tissue. The final scar will
be around the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple), extending
vertically down the breast with a horizontal scar in the breast fold.
After
The Surgery
After the breast reduction, the breasts will have an abnormal shape
and contour for the first few weeks. They will achieve a more normal
appearance after 4-6 weeks.
The
Results
For many patients, breast reduction improves the breast size and contour
and is accompanied by a positive body image. Breast reduction may also
help to alleviate related back pain and improve a patient's ability
to participate and enjoy physical activities.
