AUGMENTATION / ENHANCEMENT
Lip enhancement / augmentation is a very popular procedure in cosmetic
surgery today. A variety of treatment options are available to enhance
lip volume and contour. The options include injectable agents (i.e.
Restylane/Perlane, Artecoll, Dermadeep, Dermalive, Fat) and surgical
options (implants or dermal fat grafts). The following discussion refers
to implant and dermal fat grafts; both these options are permanent enhancements.

Who
Is A Good Candidate?
The best candidates for lip enhancement /augmentation are healthy patients
with poor lip volume and thin lip contours.
The lip implants used at the clinic are Advanta ePTFE lip implants manufactured
by the Atrium Medical Corporation. For those patients who don't want
an implant made of a foreign substance, a dermal fat graft can be obtained
from any part of the body (i.e. groin crease) and fashioned into a form
that allows it to be implanted into the lips.
The Surgery
The lip augmentation enhancement procedure is performed in our fully
equipped surgery center under intravenous sedation. A small opening
is created at the corner of the mouth and a tunnel is developed to the
opposite corner of the mouth in the lower and upper lip. A lip implant
or dermal fat graft is then inserted into the upper and lower tunnels.
The small incisions at the corners of the mouth are closed with a fine
stitch. No dressing is required. The procedure takes approximately 1
hour. The donor site for the dermal fat graft is closed with a fine
suture. After the lip augmentation/enhancement procedures, the patient
will note mild bruising, swelling, pain and tenderness. We advise patients
to take 5-7 days off work following the lip augmentation/enhancement
procedure.
After Surgery
Risks associated with a lip augmentation/enhancement procedure include
reaction to anesthesia, infections, bleeding, asymmetry and wound healing
problems. In the case of lip implants (Advanta lip implants), there
is also a risk of extrusion (implant comes out through the skin) and
migration. The clinic's preference is the dermal/fat graft as they provide
a natural non-allergenic and inexpensive method for lip augmentation/enhancement
and do not have any complications associated with foreign materials
(i.e. migration, extrusion)

AUGMENTATION / IMPLANT
USING FAT INJECTON
Many
people lose the full, natural buttock contour with age and weight loss.
Buttock augmentation provides a natural solution to these common problems.
There are two main surgical procedures for buttock augmentation / implant.
The most common is the transfer of the patient's own fat tissue and
the only procedure performed at our center. The less common procedure
is the use of a silicone implant.
Who
Is A Good Candidate?
The best candidate for a buttock implant / augmentation are people who
are 18 years of age or older and those who are in good health.
Buttock
Augmentation / Implant Surgery
The buttock augmentation / implant surgery using fat injection is performed
in our fully equipped surgery center, as a day surgery under intravenous
sedation. Small ½ inch incisions are made near a predetermined
fat donor site (i.e. abdomen/thigh area). A thin, hollow tube (cannula)
is inserted and attached to a machine that creates a vacuum. The cannula
is strategically manipulated under the skin to remove fat deposits.
The fat is then processed to remove excess fluids, and is re-injected
into the buttock region. The treatment may be repeated until the desired
buttock augmentation / implant is achieved.
After
The Buttock/Implant Surgery.
After your buttock augmentation / implant surgery you will experience
temporary discomfort. You will be off work for 6 to 7 days after a buttock
augmentation/implant procedure. You will see your final results at 3
months after the final buttock augmentation/implant treatment.
Many patients undergo a buttock augmentation / implant to produce a
well-contoured appearance. Patients are extremely satisfied after a
buttock augmentation / implant because it requires a short recovery
period and produces a more desirable buttock contour.
